Would you like a doula?

A birth doula is a trained labor attendant that provides physical, emotional and informational support before, during, and just after birth.

Two Leaves Midwifery provides doulas to our clients at no additional charge.

  • Provide emotional support, physical comfort measures and an objective viewpoint

  • Provide information to help you make informed decisions

  • Facilitate communication between the members of your birth team

  • Allow your partner to participate in the birth their comfort level

Provided doulas are in training and are not employed by Two Leaves Midwifery.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is a doula the same as a midwife?

No. A midwife is a medical care provider whose primary focus is the health and safety of you and your baby.

A doula is a non-medical member of your birth team that provides you and your partner with physical and emotional assistance.

Does a doula replace my partner?

No.  Your partner is your most important support person.  A doula's role is to help your partner support you more effectively.  If you do not have a partner, a doula can provide extra support as a partner might.

What are the benefits of having a doula?

Studies have shown that doula-attended births are shorter with fewer interventions and complications, with less need for anesthesia and greater reported overall satisfaction.

you are not required to use the provided doulas

Your birth team is your choice.  You may choose to hire your own doula, or not have a doula at all
